Wood wicks may take up to 20 seconds to catch fire. In fact, it may take 2 or 3 tries to relight a wood wick candle, as they require more time for the fire to penetrate the outer, more charred layers of wood. And remember to always burn your wood wick candles until the wax has completely melted to all edges of the candle glass.
Wood wicks are definitely not recommended in drafty places or for outdoors use, as they’re more likely to extinguish under light wind pressure and are more difficult to relight. Any types of wicks will struggle in a draft or gust of wind. Burning a candle in a drafty corridor or outdoors will cause the erratic flame to consume more of your candle, but will also create more soot and smoke in the process. The shorter the wick, the better the flame. If it’s too long, it won’t pull the wax and extinguish quickly. Wood wicks are also eco-friendly, they have more transparency and options for sustainability. These wicks are obtained from woods of sustainable forests. And there is no harmful chemical involved in producing these wicks. They don’t even emit similarly hazardous toxins while burning. In conclusion, wood wick candles do require more maintenance than cotton wick candles, but with all those gorgeous features, if you can find the right scent for you, it is definitely worth it.
